Faculty

Johannes Bauer is professor and chair of the Department of Media and Information at MSU.  His ICTD interests lie in the area of ICT infrastructure and policy in developing countries. He serves on the board of LIRNEasia, an ICT think tank based in Sri Lanka and active across the Asia Pacific region.

Eduardo Nakasone is an assistant professor, jointly appointed in the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics and the Department of Media and Information at MSU.  He holds a concurrent appointment at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Washington, D.C.  His ICTD interests have focused on the role of ICTs in rural development, including a study of mobile market information systems and rural farmers in Peru.

Jennifer Olson is an associate professor in the Department of Media and Information at MSU. She is a geographer and is interested in how developing regions adapt to climate change.  In addition to her many projects aimed at studying land use and climate change, she also leads a study abroad program together with the College of Engineering in Tanzania where students have helped to design, implement, and extend a multi-side school-based computer network, including solar powered computers, terrestrial wi-fi, and Internet connectivity.

Charles Steinfield is a professor and former chair in the Department of Media and Information at MSU. He is currently serving as the ICT and Development lead in the USAID funded Global Center for Food Systems Innovation, and has conducted research on ICTs and agriculture research in Kenya and Malawi.

Susan Wyche is an assistant professor in the Department of Media and Information at MSU. Her research focuses on human computer interaction (HCI) and information and communication technologies and development, and she has conducted studies on mobile phone use and social media use by rural farmers as well as the urban poor in such countries as Kenya, Malawi and Zambia.
